Cdv Portrait James E Mix Adjutant 137Th Nyv
Mix enrolled in ithaca at age 29 on 8/16/62, to serve three years, and mustered in as first lieutenant, co. D 8/28/62. He was mustered in as adjutant 12/21/63, having been commissioned 11/9/63, with rank from 7/29/63. He mustered out with the regiment 6/9/65.
Mix was commissioned catpain 7/29/63, but declined to be mustered in at that rank. He was, however, bertted major by the state of new york. They aslo thought well enough of him to name one of the local gar posts after him. Teh identification is confirmed by another signed view of him.
I will supply a photoocpy of that one with this. The 137th has a very interesting record, holding the federal right on culps hill at the battle of gettysburg, despite repeated assaults by confederate troops. The defense was even bettre known at the time than the struggle on little round top. Shipping $4.80 for priority mail plus insurance.
